Rains Wreak Havoc at JKIA as Passengers Endure Leaks and Delays
Travelers passing through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya, faced chaos and disruption on Monday as heavy rains caused leaks in the ceiling of the airport's departure hall. Videos circulating on social media showed water pouring through the ceiling, creating puddles on the floor and soaking luggage and travel documents.
The leaks occurred in the international departures section of the airport, causing delays and inconvenience for passengers trying to check in for their flights. Frustrated travelers took to social media to express their frustration and disappointment at the situation.
"Can someone please explain why it's raining inside JKIA? How do you expect us to travel with wet clothes and luggage?" asked one passenger on Twitter.
Another passenger posted a video of the leaks, captioning it, "This is unacceptable! We pay so much money to use this airport and this is what we get? Water pouring through the ceiling like it's a village market."
Airport officials attributed the leaks to the heavy rains that have been pounding Nairobi in recent days. They assured passengers that they are doing everything possible to fix the issue and prevent future occurrences.
"We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the leaks in the departure hall. Our team is working hard to repair the damage and ensure that our passengers have a safe and comfortable experience," said an airport spokesperson.
In the meantime, passengers are advised to arrive early and allow extra time for checking in and going through security before their flights. The airport management has also promised to provide alternative facilities for passengers who may be affected by the leaks.
The incident has raised concerns about the state of infrastructure at JKIA, which has been plagued by issues such as power outages and flooding in the past. The airport serves millions of passengers every year and is a critical hub for trade and tourism in East Africa.
As the rainy season continues in Kenya, authorities are urging passengers to remain vigilant and report any issues or concerns to airport staff. They assure that they are doing everything possible to minimize disruptions and keep passengers safe and secure.
